A plain cream bodice, ruched and gathered at the centre — and then, from just
below the bust, the whole thing breaks into painted garlands. Blue anemones, deep
red peonies, cream magnolias, little berries, running in columns all the way down
to a narrow border at the hem.
Those columns run from the seam to the floor without a single horizontal break,
which gives the eye one long uninterrupted path downward. Not a slimming trick —
just a long line, which is a different and more honest thing to offer.
The halter ties at your nape, but it isn't carrying the dress. The bodice is:
ruched, fitted, and closed with a zip, so it anchors at your ribcage the way a
good bra band does. That's what keeps a fine tie from digging in over a long
evening — the weight sits on your torso, not on your neck. Cross the ties before
you knot them and they sit flatter still. Adhesive cups underneath and that's the
last of it.
The seam sits high, so the skirt falls away from your middle rather than around
it — in a soft linen that drapes instead of puffing, which is the whole
difference between this shape working and not. One honest cue while we're here:
if your tummy sits further forward than your bust, a fitted-and-flared dress will
suit you better than a high waist. That isn't a flaw in this one. It's just how
the line works.
And on a cream this pale, wear something nude underneath and take thirty seconds
by a window before you leave. Daylight tells you more than any mirror.
