The Summer Edit — up to 50% off
Limited time · Ends Sunday
Sky blue faded like something that spent a whole summer outdoors, with great
batik botanicals climbing the sleeves and the hem, and a band of woven geometry
finishing it at the floor.
Let's deal with the obvious thing. A printed, long-sleeved something that falls
to the floor can go one of two ways, and everyone knows which two. The difference
is entirely in how you wear it. Roll the sleeves to the elbow — that single move
puts a wrist and a forearm back in the picture and makes the whole thing read as
a decision. Run a slim belt around your natural waist if you want a shape, and
it'll give you one while the dress stays exactly as full as it is. And wear a
shoe with some weight to it. That, more than anything else, is the line between
deliberate and didn't-bother.
Volume also needs the right cloth, and this is it. A tent is what happens when a
wide cut meets a stiff fabric; a soft one pours instead, and this linen pours.
It's a lot of dress, honestly — it carries best on a longer frame, and a heel
keeps the proportions where you want them.
What you get back is something nothing tailored can offer. Sleeves to the wrist
against the sun and the merciless air conditioning of restaurants, linen
breathing underneath, and nothing touching you anywhere. This is the one you pack
first and wear for eleven hours without thinking about it once.
Linen · gathered round neckline with split V and drawstring tie · decorative geometric trim at the neckline · full bishop sleeves gathered into narrow cuffs · loose kaftan cut falling from the neckline with no waist seam · floor length · engineered batik-style print with large botanicals and a multi-band geometric border at the hem · very full and unstructured throughout — it creates space rather than defining a waist; roll the sleeves and add a slim belt at the natural waist for shape · a printed mid-tone ground gives good cover, though the linen is fine — a slip is the easy call · take your usual size; the cut is generous by design · model is 5'7" and wears a size M · in Java Sky · machine wash cold, gentle cycle, hang to dry, warm iron while damp
