Gold blooms the size of your palm, opening across deep indigo, white vines
curling between them, and a green-and-cream border running the hem like the edge
of a hand-drawn cloth.
This is batik language — the old coastal Javanese arrangement of indigo ground,
botanicals, geometric borders. Centuries of it. Which is what keeps a print this
loud from being merely loud.
Because it is loud, and it isn't for everyone. What earns it is the framing:
brown traced along every strap and seam, a decorative band closing the bodice, a
border finishing the hem — nothing scattered, everything placed. And underneath
all that artwork is real tailoring, not a smock. Close through the bodice, close
through the ribs, then a gored skirt that opens out and swings when you move.
Mustard and olive on indigo is also, as it happens, exactly where summer has
landed — the seventies came back this year in earth tones rather than disco.
And you can wear a proper bra with this one. The straps are wide and set wide,
right where a balcony bra's straps sit, so it tucks underneath and disappears —
real support, nothing adhesive. The back scoops, so if your band sits high a
low-back converter sorts it in seconds.
Flat tan sandals, or a heel if you'd like the leg longer. Gold at the ear, and
nothing else. It's doing plenty.
