Python, but sun-faded — olive into ochre into rust into a dusty rose band at the
hem, each panel a different colourway of the same scaled pattern.
If your instinct about animal print is "dated," you're right about the wrong one.
Leopard is the tired default. Snakeskin is the print of this year — the runways
have been full of it, and it's earned the description "the cool-girl neutral."
The other half of that is the palette: harsh black-and-tan animal print is what
reads as several seasons ago. Muted burgundies, camels and olives are what reads
as now, and that's the entire range this dress is drawn in.
There's a quality test stylists use, too — animal print works when the pattern has
movement and depth rather than lying flat. Colour-blocking it into panels is depth
you can see: the scale shifts as it travels down you, so the eye keeps moving.
The rest is easy in the way you'd hope. It ties at your natural waist with its own
belt, so you set the shape. The sleeves flare out and stop below the elbow, which
covers the arm without adding anything to it. There are deep pockets.
And the cloth is the quiet luxury: bamboo woven with linen, which is why it falls
the way it does — silky against the skin, genuinely breathable, and it doesn't
hold heat the way most fabrics do in August. Wash it cool and hang it to dry;
heat is the one thing it doesn't forgive.
One rule for wearing it: let the dress be the only loud thing. Flat tan sandals,
gold at the ear, nothing else needed.
