Blocks of terracotta, ochre, sage and sky blue, painted over with stripes and
ovals and leaves and one small sunburst — an abstract collage laid across the
whole thing, with a hand-drawn border running the hem.
There's a useful distinction between an art print that's a picture and one that
isn't. A painted scene is charming; an abstract reads sophisticated. This is the
second kind — shapes and colour, nothing to identify, nothing to explain.
The sleeves are enormous, and where they stop is the entire point. A sleeve sends
the eye to wherever it ends, so ending it at your forearm — which is narrower
than your upper arm — covers what you'd like covered and shows the slimmest part
instead. It's the reason three-quarter is the length stylists recommend above all
others, and it's not an accident here. It also leaves your wrists out, so a cuff
or a stack of bracelets becomes part of the picture rather than something hidden
under fabric.
The body is loose and unshaped, and the belt is what gives it a waist. That's the
proper way round with volume: the belt does the structural work so everything
else gets to stay generous. Tie it at the narrowest part of you and let the rest
billow.
