Plain cream to the hip, and then it happens all at once — a great baroque scroll
rising out of the hem in turquoise and chartreuse, over a solid band of chocolate
at the floor. The neckline and both armholes are drawn in the same chocolate, a
fine line holding the whole thing together.
The waist sits low, at your hip, and that's the design rather than an accident.
Lowering the point where the skirt begins is what lengthens a torso — the effect
is built into the cut, so you don't have to do anything to get it. And if the
phrase "dropped waist" summons something from a hundred years ago, that version
is long gone: this is the silhouette that turned up everywhere this year, all
clean lines and architecture. Honest note, though — a straight dropped seam
crosses the hip rather than curving down and in, so it does its best work on a
longer frame, and it isn't a shape that cinches. It elongates instead.
Up top it's deliberately spare. A high round neck and high-cut armholes, both
bound in chocolate, over a bodice that runs smooth all the way down. It's a
covered, polished neckline — the sort that suits a long neck and a taller frame
and looks best in something minimal, which is precisely what the cream is doing
before the print arrives.
Then the skirt gathers and goes, full enough to swing properly when you walk.
On a cream this pale, wear something nude underneath and take thirty seconds by a
window before you leave. Daylight is more honest than a mirror.
